Sofia Coppola is an actress and director from the United States. She made her cinematic debut as a newborn in her father’s renowned criminal thriller film, The Godfather, as she is the daughter of filmmakers Francis and Eleanor Ford Coppola in 1972. Coppola went on to star in a number of pop songs and a minor part in Peggy Sue Got Married in 1986. In the 1990 crime film The Godfather Part III, Coppola played Mary Corleone, Michael Corleone’s daughter. After receiving negative feedback for her performance, she decided to pursue a career in filmmaking.

Sofia Coppola was born into Hollywood royalty as the daughter of Francis Ford Coppola, one of the most renowned film directors of the 20th century. Sofia Carmina Coppola was born in New York City on 14th May 1971, to Thomas and Eleanor Coppola, both legendary filmmakers of that time.  She grew up on her family’s farm in Rutherford near California. Coppola’s descent includes Italian, Lucanian, and Neapolitan.

Coppola attended the St. Helena High School at  Saint Helena Unified School District, California, where she graduated in 1989. She went on to enroll herself in Mills College and later completed her education at the California Institute of the Arts.

Coppola had an internship at Chanel when he was 15 years old. Coppola founded Milkfed, a clothing company that is currently available only in Japan, upon dropping out of university.

She filmed The Bling Ring, a humorous crime thriller inspired by the same-named criminal circle, that was screened at the Cannes Film Festival in 2013.

She won The Prestigious award for best Best Director at Cannes Film Festival in 2017  for her filmmaking for the southern Gothic film The Beguiled, marking her only the second woman to do so in the Cannes Film festival’s history.
