Ferjani Sassi Biography, Age, Salary, Stats, FIFA 22, Net Worth & Wiki

Early Career

When he was 8 years old, Shikabala enrolled in Zamalek SC’s youth program. He made his debut for the squad in a cup game at the beginning of 2002, and at the age of 16, he scored the game-winning goal. Since then, he has stayed with the first team squad, although due to his little playing time and lack of a professional contract, he was free to leave Zamalek and join PAOK FC for no transfer fee in January 2005.

He spent one rather successful season with PAOK, but despite the Greek club’s persistent insistence that Shikabla stay there till the conclusion of his contract in 2009, he later returned to Zamalek for the 2006–07 campaign in order to complete army obligations in Egypt.

Club Career

Zamalek

Shikabala first arrived in Egypt from Greece in January 2007 amid controversy after joining sworn enemies Al Ahly. Shikabala subsequently claimed, “I wanted to go back to Zamalek, but at this time they had numerous administrative issues and they refused to sign me. Shikabala was persuaded to join Zamalek by teammate Gamal Hamza and Zamalek chairman Mamdouh Abbas after the greatest transfer got viral.

Zamalek scored the game-winning goal in a 1-0 victory in his second club appearance, giving Shikabala an incredible start. Shika rapidly established himself as a starter for Henri Michel, ultimately taking the position of club icon and fan favorite Hazem Emam.

Shikabala had already established himself as the ultimate fan favorite for the Zamalek supporters’ curva sud section at the start of the 2007–08 season. Before each game, the crowd would yell his name and sing songs just for him.

He had a difficult season in which Zamalek struggled in the league, and he was subject to a lengthy suspension when Al Ahly supporters yelled obscenities at him in the 100th Cairo derby, to which he responded by elevating his shoes in their direction. He did end the year on a more positive note, as Zamalek won the cup, the team’s first trophy in four years, and concluded the year as champions.

Shikabala missed the start of the 2008–09 campaign because FIFA had suspended him for making an unauthorized transfer to Zamalek. He returned in good form in late November, but Zamalek once again had a disappointing season and placed sixth in the league.

The next season was the same until Zamalek hired Hossam Hassan in December 2009, who gradually brought the team out of obscurity and into a position where they could routinely contend for championships.

Shikabala eventually reached his playing potential and began to develop under Hassan’s tutelage. Prior to that, he was highly erratic, drifted in and out of games, and occasionally was totally ineffectual despite scoring amazing goals and doing intricate dribbles.

Since rejoining the squad in 2007, Shikabala has become a favorite of the Zamalek supporters and the team’s standout player. The management turned down multiple bids for him, most notably from Anderlecht, and made him the highest-paid player in Egypt’s history while the fans adore him.

Although the squad is centered around Shikabala, who is renowned for his abilities, the fans adore him. But his most recent display of disrespect was when, after being replaced, he got into a fight with club legend and former coach Hassan Shehata. Shehata made the decision to remove him from the squad and requested that he be sold right now.

Sporting CP

On January 29, 2014, it was revealed that Shikabala had agreed to a 700,000 dollar contract with Sporting CP in Portugal and will go there the following day to have a physical and sign an official contract.

There were several issues with the negotiations between Shikabala, Sporting, and Zamalek in the final hours of the January transfer window, but with only three minutes left, they came to an agreement on a deal for 700,000 US dollars plus 5% of any future sales should Sporting decide to sell Shikabala to another club. Shikabala made the choice to don the Sporting jersey with the number 7.

On February 16, 2014, against Tondela, Shikabala made his debut for the reserve squad. After suffering a slight ankle injury, he was replaced 28 minutes into the game after having begun the game.

Shikabala played relatively little for the squad, only making a few appearances for the reserve team and one for the first team, and was benched for most of the next season.

His goal against Azores XI during the Pedro Pauleta Trophy, which gave Sporting CP a 2-1 victory and set a new record for live viewers on the team’s website, was his most significant contribution.

International Career

On June 3, 2007, Shikabala made his debut for his country against Mauritania in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier. Shikabala has made multiple appearances for the national team throughout significant moments in modern Egyptian history, although never had a significant role. He participated in one game while representing Egypt at the 2010 African Cup of Nations, where they won for the seventh time overall and third time in a row.

In 2010, he made the decision to leave the international football scene, citing the racial taunts he had received from Al Ahly supporters during the Cairo derby and declaring that he did not want to deal with such circumstances in international matches.

However, on August 8, 2012, manager Bob Bradley called him up for friendlies against Benin and Cameroon.

Shikabala missed three years of Egypt’s national team action after being part of the team during the 2014 African Nations Championship qualification run. On November 12, 2017, he was reintegrated into the team, and in Egypt’s last World Cup qualifying match against Ghana, he scored his first competitive goal. He was included in Egypt’s final 23-man roster for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia in June of that year.
