Life Journey
Wilmar Barrios was born in Cartagena, Colombia to his father, Rafael Barrios. In accordance with the information available, he grew up with a sister Diosa Albornoz.
Wilmar Barrios grew up in a tough environment, but now the 28-year-old is flourishing in Zenit Saint Petersburg’s midfield and is a target for Real Madrid. In a humble neighborhood in Cartagena, Barrios grew up in La Candelaria. He was raised by his grandmother, Dona Celia after his father left and his mother immigrated to Venezuela in search of better fortunes.
Growing up in these neighborhoods exposes you to drugs and violence, both of which were prevalent in Colombia at the time. Nevertheless, Wilmar decided to change his life by choosing a ball as his friend, following the example of his hard-working grandmother.
Having been helped by a family compensation fund, Barrios was introduced to Boca Juniors, where he started his career by filling ice bags with water, freezing them, and then selling them. In that part of the world, the temperatures are extremely high, with lows of 27 degrees and highs of 42 degrees – all year round.
A scout convinced his uncle to take him to Cali, the birthplace of great players and the home of the best scouts in the world, as well as to the Ciclones academy. Having difficulty adjusting and missing home, Barrios decided to return home.
Until one day he met Humberto Ortiz, known as ‘El Tucho’ in Colombian football. The coach had left the dugout with the desire to search for football talent throughout the country. It was El Tucho who took Barrios to Deportes Tolima at just 16 years of age. Once again, Barrios found it difficult to adjust at first, but the temperature in Ibague eased the transition.
A 3-0 loss to Boyaca Chico in 2013 marked his first appearance in the red and gold jersey, after working his way up through the youth teams. The midfielder at Boca had to work his way up from the bottom, earning a place in the first team and then becoming indispensable to his coach. Tolima, a club that is used to competing but not winning titles, won the Copa Colombia in 2014.
This achievement earned Wilmar Barrios a place on the Colombia Under-23 team that participated in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. In the following days, he would travel directly to Boca where he found two players ahead of him in the pecking order: Fernando Gago, the team’s star player, and Sebastian Perez, the player who had just won the Copa Libertadores with Atletico Nacional.
He has worked hard to earn his place in Guillermo Barros Schelotto’s squad, as he did in his youth. In Argentina, ‘Panita’ is one step away from realizing his ultimate goal: winning the Copa Libertadores. A feat that La Bombonera has not witnessed for some time, and one Barrios wishes to leave for the Boca fans before he departs for Europe. There is a good chance that Real Madrid will be the next destination for this rising Colombian star to realize his dreams.
Wilmar Barrios Wife And Children

Social media does not provide much information about his wife. Despite the fact that the couple was married a long time ago, there is still much more to come for this beautiful couple in the future. Both Barrios and his teammate Edwin Cardona have been accused of gender violence, which they deny.
