If you have a large area that you need to clean like a warehouse, workshop, school or offices, an industrial vacuum cleaner can be of great help. They are designed to handle bigger, messier spaces but they still need to be used properly and maintained regularly. So here are our top tips on how to use an industrial vacuum cleaner.
What is an industrial vacuum cleaner?
Industrial vacuum cleaners are more robust and have a larger capacity than the standard ones used mainly at home. Even though commercial vacuum cleaners essentially work like domestic ones they are larger, more durable and have a greater range of features then domestic vacuums. One of those features allows them to work on both dry and wet floors, so they can deal with liquid spills just as well as they deal with any dirt and debris.
How to care for an industrial vacuum cleaner?
Since an industrial vacuum cleaner has to deal with a lot more work than a domestic one it is best that it is taken care of appropriately to prolong its lifespan. There are a few things that you should bear in mind.
Once per week
Try not to overuse the vacuum cleaner. Once per week is usually enough for an optimal clean. Overuse can shorten the vacuum lifespan.
For best results
For best results, pass over the same spot several times to lift all the dirt and debris that has been embedded there, especially if you are cleaning a carpeted area.
Small objects
Avoid sucking up small objects like pebbles or paper clips. They can get stuck in filters or damage the vacuum from the inside, shortening its life.
Bags
Make sure to change the vacuum cleaner’s bags, or empty the drum, regularly. Overfilling them can lead to damage and repair expenses. It is best to empty the machine when it is two-thirds full.
Micro filter
Check the micro filter regularly. It may simply need to be cleaned so the vacuum can get back to its best performance. However, if there is an odour when using the vacuum and the filter is dirty it may be time to replace it.
Suction hoses and electric cables
If air flow is restricted and you suspect that there is something stuck in the suction hoses, there is an easy way to fix that. First, turn off the vacuum and disconnect the suction hose, then reverse it and connect so the vacuum can suck the stuck debris out of it.
Another important thing is to check cables for fraying or damage. If any is found the cables will need to be replaced to avoid any hazardous situations.
Water tank
For wet vacuums, the water tank needs to be cleaned regularly as well. Simply take the tank out and throw away the dirty water. Rinse and let it dry completely before putting it back into the machine to avoid any unpleasant odours.
