Thomas Joseph Lavin (born December 7, 1976) is an American BMX racer and, since its eleventh season, the host of MTV’s reality competition series The Challenge.
T.J. Lavin is a $9 million BMX racer, television personality, and singer from the United States. T.J. Lavin amassed his fortune as a sponsored dirt jumper and BMX rider. Early Life
Thomas Joseph Lavin was born in the Nevada city of Las Vegas. Lavin learned to ride a bike when he was two years old. At the age of nineteen, he became a professional and won his first pro contest.
Lavin’s passion for BMX began when he was two years old, and he competed until he was fifteen. Lavin gave up racing to pursue a career in dirt jumping, which he did professionally at the age of nineteen. When Lavin was in high school, he attempted wrestling.

He was born Thomas Joseph Lavin in 1976 in Las Vegas, Nevada, and began riding motorcycles at the age of 15. At the age of 19, he became a pro and has won nearly every tournament he has entered, including the X Games and the Dew Action Sports Tour. He also trained himself to play the piano and established a recording studio in his house, in addition to riding. He produced a few singles, including “Soldier” in 2008, which is a homage to his long-time buddy Stephen Murray, who was seriously injured in a car accident while on the AST Dew Tour.
Lavin crashed and was transported to the hospital in 2010 while competing in a Dew Tour event in Las Vegas. He was placed in a medically induced coma due to his grave injuries, and he acquired pneumonia shortly after. He resumed breathing on his own a few days later and finally recovered completely.
