Suresh Oberoi is a well-known Indian actor, voice artist, and politician. He is known for his work in Hindi, Kannada, French, and Telugu films. He started his career in radio shows, and till now he has worked in more than 100 films. Oberoi is a recipient of the 1987 National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor.
Suresh Oberoi was born in a Hindu family on 17 December 1946 in Quetta in the state of Balochistan, Pakistan. He was born to Anand Sarup Oberoi, a businessman, and Kartar Devi. After partition, he along with his family moved to Hyderabad where they started a chain of medical stores. In 1974, Suresh Oberoi married Yashodhara who belonged to Tamil Nadu. The couple is blessed with 2 children, son Vivek Oberoi, a well-known actor, and daughter Meghna Oberoi.

In late 1977 Suresh Oberoi made his debut with Jeevan Mukt. Oberoi did a lead role in the movie Ek Baar Phir in 1980, but the movie was not commercially successful. Later he was part of the radio show Mukaddar Ka Sikandar. Then he acquired character roles in Ek Baar Kaho, Kartavya, Khanjar, and Surraksha between 1979-80, which were commercially successful.
Oberoi gained further recognition nationally for his supporting character as a Police Inspector Sharma in the 1980 movie Phir Wahi Raat, starring Rajesh Khanna. In the year 1981, then he got the chance to do Laawaris, which brought him a nomination for Filmfare Best Actor in Supporting Role. Some of his acts, as little supporting roles that made a large impact, came in movies such as Kaamchor, Namak Halal, and Vidhata.

After this little works, Oberoi got an offer to star as the lead actor in B. R. Chopra’s Mazdoor, co-starring with Dilip Kumar. Oberoi’s best appearance as a character artist came in Awaaz, a 1984 movie starring Rajesh Khanna and directed by Shakti Samanta, where he portrayed the role of Police Inspector Amit Gupta.
