Controversy And Suicide Attempt

Sapna Chaudhary sang a ragani at an event held in Gurgaon on 17 February 2016, in which accusatory caste words were spoken for Dalits. Satpal Tanwar, president of the Dalits organization Bahujan Azad Morcha lodged an objection against Ragni’s song, registering an FIR against Sapna in Hisar.

Apart from this, an FIR was lodged against Sapna Chaudhary at the police station of Sector-29 in Gurgaon. On which the police took action, a case was registered against Sapna under the SC-ST Act as well as section 34 of the Indian Penal Code. An SIT team was also formed to investigate the matter.

Sapna publicly apologized in the case. According to media reports, the campaign against him was waged by Dalit organizations on social media sites even after the apology. On which continuous very objectionable comments were being made against him. Fed up with all this, Sapna tried to commit suicide. On 29 September 2016, Sapna was granted bail by the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
