Club Career
Beginning in January 2006, Torres joined fellow Colombian Anthony Basile on the field at Cortuluá after beginning his career at Chepo. He relocated to La Equidad in January 2007 and was joined there by his countryman Orlando Rodriguez.
His performances caught the attention of numerous clubs, namely English Championship teams Swansea City and Blackpool in the 2010 winter transfer market.
Relocation to England, nevertheless, never happened. In December 2011 and January 2012, he participated in a trial with the Championship team Nottingham Forest, winning over manager Steve Cotterill. However, this plan also fell through.
Millonarios FC
Roman was most recently connected with a move to Brazilian team Palmeiras due to his continuous success at Millonarios FC, but this too did not happen.
With Millonarios FC, with whom he played more than 100 matches, he won the Liga Postobón II 2012 Colombian national football championship.
Seattle Sounders FC
Torres signed a contract with Seattle Sounders FC on August 12, 2015. On August 18, he made his club debut in Seattle during a 4-0 victory over Orlando City SC.
Torres suffered a knee injury during a game on September 12 against the San Jose Earthquakes, forcing a halftime substitution. Later on, it was discovered to be an anterior cruciate ligament injury, necessitating surgery and recovery time for Torres to miss the remainder of the season. In June 2016, Torres returned to team workouts, and he fully resumed play on August 28 during a match against the Portland Timbers.
In a penalty shootout against Toronto FC on December 10, 2016, Torres converted the winning shot to give his team the MLS Cup.
