Rob Minkoff was born on August 11, 1962, in Palo Alto, California, in the United States. He attended Palo Alto High School as a teen before enrolling at the California Institute of the Arts in Santa Clarita. After graduating from the Department of Character Animation in the mid-1980s, he worked on numerous cartoons and movies.

While still a student at CalArts, Minkoff was hired as an in-between artist for Walt Disney Animation Studios’ film The Black Cauldron. Rob Minkoff Career

Rob received his big break in 1983 when Walt Disney Animation Studios hired him to work on the animated fantasy film The Black Cauldron. He worked as a supervising animator on the animated mystery adventure film The Great Mouse Detective in 1986. He was then hired as a character designer for the animated musical film The Brave Little Toaster.

His next project as a character animator was the 1989 release of the musical fantasy animated film The Little Mermaid.
