Richarlison Transfer: Major Club Wanted To Pay The Massive Fee For Richarlison
Why was Richarlison linked with a move to PSG?
Brazil’s forward was linked with a move to PSG this summer as the French giants had lined him up as a potential replacement for Kylian Mbappe.
Real Madrid was very interested in signing Mbappe and made multiple offers for the 22-year-old but PSG decided against selling him, which resulted in Richarlison remaining at Everton.
How Much Was PSG Willing To Pay For Him If Mbappe Left?
According to reports, PSG was prepared to pay Everton €90m (£77.3m) for Richarlison if Mbappe moved to La Liga. In 2018, during Marco Silva’s tenure at Everton, they spent up to £50m on Richarlison when they signed him from Watford. This would have allowed Everton to make a profit of at least £27.3m on the 25-year-old attacker.
Would Everton Have Accepted This Offer?
Rafael Benitez said last week that Richarlison would not be sold before the transfer window closed. A bid exceeding £77m would have been difficult for Everton to turn down. For the club, this would have been the highest fee they’ve ever received for a player. In light of this, they would have had to seriously consider and possibly accept PSG’s proposal.
Did Everton Have A Contingency Plan Of Their Own?
This may well have been the case. With one addition to their squad on Deadline Day, the Toffees added striker Salomon Rondon on a free transfer.
Richarlison and Rondon appear to have similar physical characteristics. With both players standing over 6 feet tall, they offer a significant presence in the final third, as well as the ability to stretch defenses with their willingness to run in behind.
As things stand, the attacking duo will remain at Everton at least until January, and they could lead the line together after the international break, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin currently suffering from a thigh strain.
However, it is possible that Benitez had in the back of his mind that Richarlison might leave the club at the last moment, so he may have wanted Rondon to pick up where he left off if that turned out to be the case.
