Early Life
Rami Malek was born in Torrance, California on May 12, 1981, to Egyptian immigrant parents Said and Nelly. His father worked as an insurance salesman, while his mother worked as an accountant. He has an elder sister, Yasmine, and an identical twin brother, Sami.
Malek attended Notre Dame High School in Los Angeles’ Sherman Oaks neighborhood as a teenager. During his freshman year, he was a member of the debate team. Despite his struggles with rhetoric, his debate master was struck by his theatrical interpretation which encouraged him to seek a career in acting. Malek’s television debut on “Gilmore Girls” was followed by appearances on the action war drama “Over There” and the spooky thriller “Medium” in 2005.
