Preity Zinta was born in a Hindu Vishwakarma family on 31 January 1975 in Shimla and brought up in Rohru, Shimla. Her father Durganand Zinta (Died in a road accident when she was just 13 years old) was an officer in the Indian Army. Her mother Nilprabha is a homemaker. She has an elder brother Deepankar, a commissioned officer in the Indian Army, and a younger brother Manish, who lives in California.
