His real name is Cornell Iral Haynes Jr. He is referred has one of the biggest stars in the new millennium. Nelly is the fourth American rap artist with best-selling albums and sold over 21 million albums as of now. In 2009 Nelly was ranked as the third Top artist in the 2000s Decade by Billboard. He also won four Grammy awards.

Cornell Iral Haynes Jr. a.k.a Nelly was born on 2nd November 1974 in Austin, Texas. His father is Cornell Haynes and his mother is Rhonda Mack. Nelly’s father was in the United States Air Force for most of his youth, and his parents separated when he was just seven years old.

Nelly relocated from St. Louis into University City, a suburb in St. Louis County, along with his mother when he was a youngster. Nelly established the St. Lunatics alongside his buddies Ali, Kyjuan, Murphy Lee, and Slo’Down, as well as his half-brother City Spud, while still in high school.

In 1997, the group’s track Gimme What Ya Got achieved minor local success.  A&R Kevin Law later signed Nelly to Universal Music Group in 1999.

Country Grammar, Nelly’s debut track, was a hit, reaching number seven on the Billboard Hot 100 as well as number seven on the UK singles chart.
