Early Career
Gavranović began his career with AS Vezia before being noticed by Team Ticino U18, FC Lugano’s development programme. In the 2006–07 season, he made his professional debut with FC Lugano in the Swiss Challenge League. He scored eight goals in 21 games during his sophomore season. Mario joined Yverdon-Sport in the summer of 2008 and scored eight goals in only 20 appearances. He transferred to Neuchâtel Xamax for the 2008–09 season.
Schalke
Gavranović departed Neuchâtel Xamax on 1 February 2010 after a great debut with the team, scoring eight goals in 17 games. FC Zürich
Mario Gavranović returned to Schalke after only five games on loan, and opted to renounce his contract in May 2012, moving on a free transfer to FC Zürich in the summer. On 15 July 2012, he made his debut for Zürich and scored his first goal from the penalty spot in the same match, a 1–1 tie with FC Luzern.
