Kalidou Koulibaly Biography, Age, Stats, FIFA 22, Net Worth & Wiki

Club Career

Urawa Red Diamonds

He joined Urawa Reds in 2002, the year he received his high school diploma from Fujieda Higashi. In the 2003 season, he started playing regularly for their first team. He mostly served as Keita Suzuki’s defensive midfielder.

He received the J.League Cup New Hero Award and was chosen for the J.League team of the year in 2004. He also won the season’s Urawa Fans’ Player of the Year award. For the first time in the club’s history, the Reds won the J1 League championship in 2006, and in the 2007 AFC Champions League, they won the first Asian championship.

A.C. Siena of Italy’s Serie A was said to be interested in signing Hasebe the following January in October 2007.

VfL Wolfsburg

He did, however, become the first Japanese player to ever play for Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga. He was the second Japanese player to win the Bundesliga championship in 2009.

Hasebe’s contract with Wolfsburg was extended until 2012, it was revealed on April 29, 2010.

Hasebe played the final nine minutes of an away game against 1899 Hoffenheim on September 17, 2011, in goal. Hasebe’s error cost Wolfsburg the game 3-1 after Hoffenheim’s third goal was given away with 85 remaining. He faced 1. FSV Mainz 05 in his 100th Bundesliga game on December 3, 2011.

Eintracht Frankfurt

Hasebe joined Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt for the 2014–15 season, and made an immediate impact as a starter, missing just one match in his debut year. He also played in midfield for Frankfurt in the 2015–16 campaign, however, they were only able to avoid relegation by defeating Hasebe’s previous team Nuremberg in the relegation play-off.

The Japanese footballer was called up for the first time at center-back as a central link in a five-man backline at the end of October 2016 under Frankfurt’s new manager Niko Kova and played in this position ever since. Hasebe participated in the DFB-Pokal final that year, which Borussia Dortmund ultimately won 2-1, despite the fact that Hasebe’s season had already finished due to knee surgery in March 2017.

He played for Eintracht in the DFB-Pokal final and finished ninth in the Bundesliga during the 2017–18 campaign. There, in May 2018, the squad defeated FC Bayern Munich 3-1 to win its first championship in 30 years, and as a result, qualified for the Europa League group stage. He participated in all 14 of his team’s games in the latter tournament the next season, and after victories against Benfica Lisbon, Inter Milan, and Shakhtar Donetsk, they went to the semifinals against Chelsea FC, where they were eliminated on penalties.

He was rated “International Class” by kicker sports magazine in both the winter of 2018–19 and the summer of 2019 due to his great season-long achievements, and the Association of Contract Footballers put him on the end-of-season team. Hasebe set a Bundesliga record for the most Asian players when he played against 1. FSV Mainz 05 on June 6, 2020, in his 309th appearance.

The Japanese footballer, who was 36 years old at the start of the 2020–21 season, was the oldest player in the Bundesliga. A permanent replacement team captain was not named when David Abraham’s professional career came to an end in January 2021, although Hasebe has served as Eintracht’s captain for the majority of that period.

International Career

At an exhibition game against the USA at AT&T Park in San Francisco on February 11, 2006, Hasebe made his senior national team debut for Japan under manager Zico. Despite participating in three games under Zico,[10] he was not chosen for the 2006 World Cup.

Hasebe soon received a cap for Japan under new manager Ivica Osim following the 2006 World Cup. Despite participating in three games for Osim in 2006, he was unable to participate in any games in 2007. In November 2007, Osim had a stroke, and in December, Takeshi Okada took over as manager. For the first time in one and a half years, Hasebe played for Japan against Ivory Coast in May 2008.

He then started playing regularly and appeared in several games with Yasuhito Endo as a defensive midfielder.

While Yoshikatsu Kawaguchi was the backup third-string goalkeeper and captain of the 2011 AFC Asian Cup, Hasebe served as the on-field leader at the 2010 FIFA World Cup. He led the squad through three World Cup tournaments before announcing his retirement from international competition following Japan’s Round of 16 loss to Belgium by a score of 3-2. Hasebe participated in all four games of the 2010 World Cup, helping Japan advance to the knockout round.
