Career
Baker persuaded an MC management to help him establish his career while finishing high school after returning to the United States. Baker acquired the stage moniker “Machine Gun Kelly” at this moment to reflect his fast-paced vocal delivery. MGK began performing in small settings before moving on to the Apollo Theater in Harlem.
He also had an appearance on MTV2’s Sucker Free Freestyle. After that, he released his second mixtape, 100 Words, and Running. MGK was receiving visibility around this period, but he was still struggling financially. His father booted him out of the family home, he became a parent himself, and he worked at Chipotle to support himself.
When MGK released the track “Alice in Wonderland,” he took a giant stride forward. Before the release of his new mixtape, Lace Up, he received multiple honors and gained a reputation for the single. One of the songs was dedicated to the Cleveland Cavs and was played during their home games.
Following this impressive run, MGK collaborated on the tune “Inhale” with Juicy J. Sean Combs approached MGK in 2011 and signed him to the record company Bad Boy Records.
MGK was finally ready to release his debut studio album, Lace Up, in 2012. The album included songs like “Invincible” and “Wild Boy,” as well as appearances by musicians like Tech N9ne, Twista, and DMX.
The same year, he teamed with a number of musicians, including Pusha T and Meek Mill, to release the mixtape Black Flag. Following several years of delay, MGK released his second studio album, General Admission, in 2015.
MGK and Camila Cabello collaborated on the smash track “Bad Things” in 2016. MGK’s animosity with Eminem came ahead in 2018. MGK has previously labeled Eminem’s 16-year-old daughter “hot” in a tweet.
Eminem did not notice the tweet for nearly a year, forcing him to produce a diss tune in which he targeted MGK. Eminem finally barred MGK from participating in his online radio program while the battle raged on. “Rap Devil,” one of MGK’s most well-known Eminem diss tunes, was released in 2018.
Hotel Diablo, MGK’s fourth studio album, was released in 2019. The album, which featured the hits “I Believe I’m Alright” and “Glass House,” opened at number five on the Billboard 200. The same year, he announced that his next album, Tickets to My Downfall, will be a collaboration with Travis Barker, due out in 2020.
