Lieutenant Ram Prakash Roperia had a short but remarkable career in the Indian Army. In 1979, he joined the Indian Military Academy in Dehradun and became an officer in the Madras Regiment on December 19, 1981. After his training, he served with the 26th Battalion of the Madras Regiment in Amritsar.

In 1984, Ram played a crucial role in Operation Blue Star, a military mission to remove Sikh separatists from the Golden Temple in Amritsar. On the night of June 5/6, 1984, he was tasked with leading his company to secure the first floor of a building held by terrorists. Despite overwhelming odds, Ram bravely led his troops in a daring attack, successfully capturing the building. Sadly, he lost his life in the process, but his courage and leadership saved many of his fellow soldiers.

In recognition of his exceptional bravery and ultimate sacrifice, Ram received posthumous honors, including the Ashoka Chakra, India’s highest military award, and the Vir Chakra, the nation’s third-highest military decoration.

Although Lieutenant Ram’s military career was cut short by his untimely death, he left behind a lasting legacy of bravery and selflessness that will be remembered for generations. He remains a true national hero and a source of inspiration for all Indians.
