Keisuke Honda Biography, Age, Stats, FIFA 22, Net Worth & Wiki

Early Life

Ki began playing football at Suncheon Jungang Elementary School before switching to Gwangyang Jecheol Middle School. In 2001, he traveled to Brisbane, Australia, to attend John Paul College and participate in Jeff Hopkins’ BSP (Brain Soccer Program).

Ki’s father regarded the relocation as a chance for him to pursue both his academic and athletic interests while also learning English. [Reference required] Ki participated in the national inter-school under-15 soccer tournament’s Bill Turner Cup in 2004 as a member of the squad that played youth football for the school team and won the competition.

He was given offers by Queensland Roar of the Australian Football League and the South Korean team FC Seoul in 2005, but he chose to return to South Korea to pursue his studies and career there instead.

Club Career

FC Seoul

Ki went back to South Korea and joined FC Seoul, where he played with Lee Chung-yong on the national squad. He was not used as a substitute in the 2006 League Cup final game. He made his K League senior debut on March 4, 2007, against Daegu FC, playing for Enol Güneş.

Celtic

On August 25, 2009, it was made public that Celtic and FC Seoul had spoken about the prospect of Ki moving to the Parkhead club. However, considering Seoul’s success in the league and the Asian Champions League, the player’s agency said a move right away would be improbable. However, Celtic completed the £2.1 million purchase of Ki three days later.

At the conclusion of the K-League season, he joined the Parkhead team during the January transfer window. After Ki obtained a work visa and passed his physical exam, the signing was officially confirmed on December 13th, 2009. Ki allegedly declined a Premier League contract from the English club Portsmouth. He chose the number 18 and wore a shirt that said “Ki.”

Swansea City

Before Wilfried Bony eventually shattered it, Ki’s transfer to Swansea City on August 24, 2012, for about £6 million on a three-year contract, set a record for the club.

On August 28, Ki made his Swans debut in a 3-1 League Cup second-round victory over Barnsley at Liberty Stadium. Ki, who was assigned the number 24 jersey, began the game as a center midfielder and was removed in the 76th minute.

Newcastle United

After his contract with Swansea City expired on June 29, 2018, Ki reconnected with Jonjo Shelvey by signing a two-year agreement with Newcastle United. Ki made his debut for Newcastle under manager Rafa Benitez on August 26 against Chelsea and the following weekend against Manchester City, both of which ended in 2-1 losses. Ki was subsequently benched by Benitez for the following five matches due to his “lack of movement,” according to Benitez.

On November 3, he entered the game as a substitute for the injured Shelvey against Watford. His free kick, which was headed in by Ayoze Pérez, gave Newcastle a 1-0 victory and their first league victory of the year.

Mallorca

Ki joined RCD Mallorca on February 25, 2020, for the remainder of the season as the Balearic club fought to stay in the top division of Spain. He replaced Takefusa Kubo in the last 15 minutes of a crucial 2-1 away victory over Eibar on March 7, making him the first Korean player to don the Los Bermellones jersey.

This was his La Liga debut. However, because of the COVID-19 epidemic, which caused La Liga to be suspended for three months, Ki’s time in Spain came to a sudden end. When the league restarted in early June, he was unable to train with his teammates due to an ankle injury.

International Career

Ki has competed on the international level for South Korea’s national team, under-23 squad, and U-20 World Cup team since 2007. He debuted for his country on June 7th, 2008, against Jordan in a 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifier.

Ki was chosen on June 1 to be a member of South Korea’s 23-man World Cup team. Ki participated in South Korea’s opening World Cup game against Greece on June 12. He participated in each of the three group matches and provided two assists in two different games against Greece and Nigeria, which enabled him and his nation to advance to the competition’s knockout rounds.

Ki and Ji So-yun of Kobe INAC Japan shared the South Korean Player of the Year title on December 20, 2011. The Korean Football Association (KFA) made the announcement based on his SPL club and international performance.
