After shifting to Mumbai, Kalki auditioned for Anurag Kashyap’s Dev.D which is a modern-day evolution of the Bengali novel Devdas written by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay in 1917. Her role was based on Chandramukhi a pivotal. character in the novel, a prostitute who fell in Love with the lead character.

Initially, Anurag had denied her as she wasn’t Indian and did not fit the character, but he later switched his mind after watching her audition tape. The movie was a huge success, and she gained recognition and appreciation for her performance in the film .

Kalki later appeared in the black comedy movie as a supporting actor in Emotional Atyachaar which was her only cinema appearance in 2010 and achieved her mixed reviews from the critics.
