Jose Miguel da Rocha Fonte ComM (born December 22, 1983) plays as a center defender for Lille in Ligue 1 and the Portugal national team. With Sporting CP B, Fonte began his professional career before joining Crystal Palace in 2007 and relocating to England. In 2010, after signing with Southampton, he made 288 appearances across all leagues until moving to West Ham United in January 2017.

Later, he played for Lille in France and Dalian Yifang in China, winning the Ligue 1 championship with Lille in the 2020–21 campaign. Having played for Portugal since he was 30, Fonte participated in two UEFA European Championships and the 2018 FIFA World Cup, helping his team win UEFA Euro 2016.

Jose Fonte Personal Life

Portugal

• Fonte, a Penafiel native, played football at Sporting CP from the ages of 10 to 13 before completing his training there.
• As a senior, he only made one appearance for Sporting CP B in the third tier.
• He signed a deal with Salgueiros in 2004, but soon after, the team went bankrupt and was dissolved; as a result, he withdrew his agreement and moved to Felgueiras in the Segunda Liga.
