Early Life
Lawrence Mignogna was born in Abington, Pennsylvania, and reared in Philadelphia. His parents were Donna Mignogna, a personnel manager and former elementary school teacher, and Joseph Lawrence Mignogna, an insurance broker. His ancestors are Italian, Scottish, and English. During his childhood, his family’s surname was changed to “Lawrence.” Matt and Andy, two of his younger siblings, are also actors.

Lawrence made his debut in a Cracker Jack advertisement. He played the song “Give My Regards to Broadway” on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson when he was five years old.
Lawrence landed the part of Joey Donovan on the successful NBC comedy Gimme a Break! in 1983 after guest appearances on Diff’rent Strokes and Silver Spoons. He stayed in that capacity until 1987 when the show concluded. With the premiere of Summer Rental in 1985, Lawrence made his theatrical debut.
