Jimmy Smits is an actor from the United States. He is most known for his roles as prosecutor Victor Sifuentes in L.A. Law, Matt Santos on The West Wing, and NYPD Detective Bobby Simone on NYPD Blue, as well as appearances ADA Miguel Prado in Dexter. Smits also starred in Switch and My Family. He also featured in the Star War sequel trilogy as well as Rogue One, where he played Bail Organa.

Smits was born in the neighborhood of Brooklyn, in the state of New York. Cornelis Leendert Smits, Smits’ father, was born in Paramaribo, Suriname, and was of Dutch heritage. Emilina Smits, Smits’ mother, was born in Peuelas, Puerto Rico. He grew up in a working-class area with his two sisters, Diana and Yvonne.
He moved to Puerto Rico when he was ten years old and lived there for a few years. He had never spoken Spanish before that. Attending a Spanish-only school was traumatizing and difficult for Smith.
