Jaya Prada is a well-known Indian film actress and politician. Jaya is recognized to be one of the great actresses in Hindi cinema and was one of the most iconic and prominent actresses in both Hindi and South film industry in the late ’70s, 80’s and early ’90s. She is the receiver of 3 Filmfare Awards South and has starred in several Telugu, Malayalam, Hindi, Kannada Tamil, Bengali, and Marathi movies.
Jaya Prada was born in a Hindu family on 3 April 1962 in Rajahmundry, Andhra Pradesh, India. Her father, Krishna Rao, was a Telugu film financier, and her mother, Neelaveni, was a homemaker. She has no siblings. Jaya married a film producer, Shrikant Nahata in 1986. At that time, Shrikant was already married and had three children one of them is Siddhu.

Jaya starred in Adavi Ramudu in 1977, which burst box office records and permanently bonded her star status. K. Viswanath remade Siri Siri Muvva into the Hindi film Sargam and introduced her to Bollywood in 1979. The movie became a huge hit and Jaya became an overnight star there as well. She earned her first Filmfare nomination as Best Actress, but couldn’t capitalize on her success, as she couldn’t speak Hindi.
It took 3 more years before director K. Vishwanath relaunched Jaya again in Hindi movies, with the hit movie Kaamchor in 1982, where she spoke Hindi fluently for the first time. She was then able to consistently work in Hindi movies and earn 2 more Filmfare nominations as Best Actress for playing Amitabh Bachchan’s endearing girlfriend in Prakash Mehra’s Sharaabi in 1984 and for her challenging double role in K. Vishwanath’s Sanjog in 1985.
