Hossein Kanani Zadegan began working with Persepolis in January 2012. He signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with the club through the conclusion of the 2013–14 season. He made his Persepolis debut as a starter against Foolad in the last match of the 2011–12 Iran Pro League. Hossein competed in the AFC Vision Asia U21 Tehran Premier League for Persepolis U21.
Kanaani was loaned out to Portuguese club Beira Mar in August 2013. However, owing to work visa complications, he was forced to return to Iran without playing a single match.
