Early Life

Gutfeld is the son of Jacqueline Bernice “Jackie” and Alfred Jack Gutfeld and was born in San Mateo, California. He went to Junipero Serra High School and the University of California, Berkeley, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in English in 1987.

Gutfeld revealed in a 2009 interview that he began to experience a shift in his political outlook while in college and that he became a conservative being around liberals the vice versa when he was with the other group. He also mentions that the worst part of the left and the right groups is their moralizing.

Personal Life

He got married to Elena Moussa. Elena Moussa worked as a model in Russia before becoming a photo editor for Maxim Russia. Greg and Elena met while working for Maxim, but at different locations. In 2004, Gutfeld met Elena on his first day as the editor of Maxim U.K.

After dating for five months, Gutfeld and Elena married in a civil ceremony in New York. Elena’s social media feeds show that the pair has a close relationship. Greg departed London in 2006 after his contract with Maxim U.K. was not renewed owing to weak sales.

Although he was catholic he claims that he is non-religious. Greg Gutfeld was born on September 12, 1964, in San Mateo, California, to Alfred Jack Gutfeld and Jacqueline Bernice. Gutfeld was raised as a Catholic, although he now declares himself non-religious. He does, however, recognise and value the benefits of church and religion in society.

Growing up, he was an altar boy, which helped him socialise and form ties with his peers. Greg thinks that the world has to figure out a way to reap the advantages of religion without forcing people to believe in it.

Greg’s college education helped shape his political thoughts and helped him realise what is truly right and what is wrong. He was a liberal during his high school days because that helped him secure amazing grades however, after numerous discussions, he recognised he was a liar, a liar to himself. Once he arrived at UC Berkeley, he began to reconsider his political views. He concluded he wasn’t a liberal or a conservative; instead, he was a libertarian. However, he now claims that he is not a member of any political party.

Among his unconventional opinions, one is that bullying isn’t so bad after all. Greg grew raised with three elder sisters who dominated him for the majority of his youth. He, on the other hand, relished the bullying and saw it as a show of affection. Bullying may have a terrible impact on children, but Greg believes that bullying at a young age stems from a place of love.

He believes that everyone is a bully and that even those who speak out against bullying hurt others unknowingly.

Greg Gutfeld Controversies

Like every famous celeb, Greg too was involved in quite a few controversies, after all, fame comes with a price.

Clash with the Canadians

Gutfeld and his panel examined Canadian Lieutenant-General Andrew Leslie’s comments that the Canadian Armed Forces may demand a one-year “synchronised break” once Canada’s mission in Afghanistan finished in 2011 during a Red Eye broadcast that aired on March 17, 2009: “In other words, the Canadian military wants to relax by doing yoga, painting landscapes, and running on the beach in stunning white Capri pants.” Doug Benson, a comedian on the panel, added: “I had no idea they were fighting in the war…. That’s where I thought you went if you didn’t want to fight. Go to Canada and relax.” Additionally, Gutfeld stated: “Isn’t now the ideal moment to attack this absurd country? They don’t even have an army!”

The video was uploaded to YouTube three days after four Canadian troops were reported killed in Afghanistan, causing worldwide anger. For three years, Canada had been in charge of the NATO mission in Kandahar Province, the Taliban’s birthplace and former capital. It was “home to some of the strongest opposition to coalition forces,” along with Helmand Province, and was said to “have the highest mortality rates per province.”

Canadian Defence Minister Peter MacKay demanded an apology from Fox for the satirical remarks, calling them “despicable, nasty, and uneducated.” While keeping the show’s humorous and irreverent nature, Gutfeld issued the following apology: “A segment on the March 17 edition of Red Eye discussed Canada’s intention for a synchronized break,’ which was in no way intended to minimise soldier efforts. However, I recognise the possibility that my comments were misinterpreted. I apologise for disrespecting the courageous men, women, and families of the Canadian military, which was not my intention.” Thus apologizing for his actions.

Involvement in ground zero mosque

Gutfeld said on August 9, 2010, that he was planning to build New York City’s first Islamic-friendly homosexual bar near the Park51 Islamic community centre.

Russia Ukraine crisis comments

Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Gutfeld said that the media was manipulating viewers’ emotions with battle videos “because it creates a profit for news firms.” Fox News international affairs contributor Benjamin Hall, who was on the ground in Kyiv, chastised Gutfeld: “This isn’t an attempt by the media to elicit an emotional response. This is exactly what’s going on.” Hall was critically injured a few days later, while Pierre Zakrzewski (also a Fox reporter) and a Ukrainian journalist were murdered in a surprise attack by Russian soldiers on the journalists. Due to the efforts of Fox News colleagues Steve Brannigan and Lucas Tomlinson, Gutfeld’s mother-in-law, Elena Gutfeld’s mother, was also evacuated from Ukraine.

Comments on the US election in 2020

Gutfeld endorsed Trump’s charges of voter fraud and urged for an audit and probe into voting in various states after Joe Biden defeated Donald Trump in the 2020 presidential election. Gutfeld said that Trump fans’ “distrust of political institutions” was warranted after they invaded the US Capitol in January 2021, stating, “You can’t trust the media because they lie to you.” Elections can’t be trusted because they’re rigged!” Gutfeld went on to say that non-liberals are “supposed to be the barrier against the barbarians, but yesterday, we looked like the barbarians,” referring to the attack on the US Capitol and the ensuing bloodshed.
