Eray Cömert began his football career at Concordia Basel. He moved to Basel in 2009 and played in their junior system. On 10 February 2016, he made his first-team debut in a 3-2 away win over Zürich at the Letzigrund. Cömert won the Swiss Super League championship at the end of the 2015-16 season under trainer Urs Fischer. It was the club’s seventh championship triumph in a row, and their 19th overall.
In the 2016-17 UEFA Youth League group stage, Cömert appeared in all six games as the Basel U-19 squad advanced to the knockout phase. Cömert scored the opening goal from nearly 45 metres in the 40th minute of Basel’s 2-1 win over Arsenal on September 28, 2016.
