Club Career
Early Career
Taarabt was born in Morocco’s Fez. His family relocated to a little French village named Berre-l’Étang when he was a young child. He started his career at Lens in 2004 and participated in 14 amateur Championnat de France matches with RC Lens B. During the 2006–07 season, he played once for Lens’ first team.
Tottenham Hotspur
On January 2, 2007, Taarabt, who was still just 17 years old, agreed to a long-term loan with Tottenham Hotspur after the Club promised to give him as much playing time as possible by immediately integrating him into the starting lineup.
Within two months, he earned his first senior Spurs team appearance, replacing Pascal Chimbonda in the 87th minute of a 4-3 away triumph on March 4 against local rival West Ham United. He made his lone other appearance of the loan on April 7 in a 1-0 loss against another nearby rival, Chelsea; he came on to replace Teemu Tainio after 64 minutes.
Taarabt was permanently acquired by Tottenham on June 8. On July 7, against Stevenage Borough, he scored his first goal for Spurs in a preseason friendly. On August 18, 2007, in the 4-0 victory over Derby County, he made his first of six appearances for the 2007–08 campaign, coming on for Wayne Routledge in the 71st minute. Benfica
Taarabt agreed to a €4 million five-year contract with Benfica, the reigning Portuguese champions, on June 12, 2015. He signed a loan agreement with Italian club Genoa on January 10, 2017, lasting until June 2018.

International Career
Taarabt played for Morocco at the senior level despite having represented France at the under-16, under-17, and under-18 levels, explaining, “I thought the moment was perfect when I was offered this chance.” He competed in his debut international game for Morocco on February 11, 2009, against the Czech Republic in Casablanca. He also made an appearance on March 29 during Morocco’s 2-1 loss to Gabon in a FIFA World Cup qualifying match.
